Hey, hey! Happy weekend to YOU! I know I’m late getting my Fridays Faves posted. It’s been a busy week. We can just go ahead and pretend today is Friday (wouldn’t that be lovely?) or you can accept my tardiness. Anywho, I have some fun things to share in this post. I would love to hear what you are enjoying these days.

Larabar bites mint chocolate truffle – Oh my word, these are delicious! I cannot stop snacking on them. They definitely satisfy my sweet tooth.

Yasso frozen Greek yogurt bars – the chocolate chip cookie dough ones are my favorite!

Did you know that wine now comes in cans? Union Wine Co. sells cans of its Underwood wine in select local stores. I have not tried these yet, but I am super curious. Anyone have these?

My new glasses – I’ve decided I like them (even if I had a bad experience buying them). You can’t really see it, but there is a faint green on the inside and arms.

Vanilla almond overnight oats – I’ve had this almost every day this week. Soooo good.

ThredUP – Shopping just got easier (and cheaper!). ThredUp carries secondhand clothes that look like new. I’ve had such a great time buying and selling with ThredUP. And I love that they show you how much you’ve saved in each shopping trip!

Survival and Cross jump rope – Double unders may end up being the death of me. They take sooooo much coordination and I get frustrated when I can’t do them. I manage to string a few together, but I think I just need to practice them more. I’m going to buy this jump rope to try to work on it outside of CrossFit. Anyone have any good tips to share?

 

Great Lakes collagen – I’ve been enjoying this in my coffee each morning. It’s nearly tasteless and is a great way to increase joint health and up your protein intake.

Hey there. I am so happy that the weekend is here! I have a few hours of work this morning and then I am home free for the weekend. Whatcha got planned? Hope it’s something enjoyable.

Larabar Bites – I’ve been snacking on these constantly. They are so good and perfect for a pre-workout snack.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet – I absolutely love this wine! It’s aged in bourbon barrels for a few months so it has a bit of a smokey flavor. Big fan!

S’Well Might be Vodka Bottle – Love. Clearly, I need this since it matches my nails so well. Of courssseee. I couldn’t find this exact one online, but Amazon carries tons of designs.

Pro Blending Sponge – This technically isn’t a fave, but it’s definitely a like for me. I picked this little guy up at TJMaxx and it works well. I just wear tinted moisturizer so it probably works better with foundation.

RXBARs are officially my jam! My favorite flavor is the dark chocolate sea salt.

Valentine’s Day – I know, I know-it’s a Hallmark holiday, but I love Valentine’s Day. It’s just a nice reminder to let all the people in your life know you care for them. And that can be expressed with words and cards – it doesn’t have to be expensive! #butidreallylikesomechocolate

My Old Navy slippers – Seriously, friends. These cost less than $10 and are one of the comfiest slippers I own. Money well spent. And they are 25% off right now! <—YES!

Udi’s gluten-free bagels – super soft and really good spread with peanut butter and jelly. Just sayin.

GapFit breathe workout tops – I really like Gap for athleisure wear. Their tops are very soft and wash well. I also got this one and I like it a lot (also now 25% off with code EXTRA).

A Fit Mess

Hello there my friends! Happiest of Fridays to you. I’m looking forward to a few beautiful, sunny days after all the rain last weekend. What do you have going on? I’m not sure what we will get into, but I’m sure it will be a lot of running around with the girls.

 

I thought I’d do something a bit different with this Friday faves post and talk a bit about the practice of filling up your own cup and my favorite ways to show myself some love.

 

I have spoken a few times about the importance of self-care and how it’s critical for everyone. I may sound like a broken record here, but I am passionate about making yourself a priority. Life can be overwhelming at times. We all have so many obligations and responsibilities these days. In fact, I could fill my whole day with work, projects, and random tasks and still not make a dent on everything. And let’s not even talk about cleaning – which I am currently failing at (sigh).

 

One thing I have learned to do is take time for myself. I can’t emphasize this enough. Everyone needs and deserves some time to focus on themselves, whether for you that means some time alone, a dinner date with friends, a workout class, or a bubble bath. I don’t believe it’s a luxury, it’s a necessity.

 

With that in mind, here are some of the ways I’ve been practicing some self love lately:

 

Morning smoothies with the girls.  The girls have a smoothie every morning, but I typically have eggs and veggies or chia pudding. I’ve been getting back into smoothies and it’s been a nice change. Of course, we’re working on sharing since the girls don’t want me to drink any of theirs.

Taking my lunch outside. As many of you know, most of my lunch breaks are spent at the gym, but once a week I’ve been trying to have a meal away from my desk. I love sitting outside at Whole Foods or Happy + Hale to read and enjoy lunch.

Enjoying homemade white pizza with caramelized onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives and goat cheese that Matthew made (SO good!!).

A glass of wine (or two) while making dinner or playing with the girls. I’ve been going back to Zinfandels and I love it!

A Fit Mess

Taking a walk outside alone. Before I had the girls I used to walk all the time. Now that my time is a bit more limited I’d rather run or get an actual workout in if I have time to myself. But this week I have squeezed in a couple of walks and they felt so good. Honestly, my mood has just been off lately and getting outdoors in the sunshine has really helped. Plus, I get a lot of ideas for blog posts when I am walking. It’s a great time to brainstorm.

Hanging out at the pool with the girls. One of our favorite things about our neighborhood is the close proximity of the pool and playground to our house. The girls and I usually make it to the pool twice a week.

Lots of other little things give me a boost: getting a manicure, wandering around Target without an agenda (or kids!), buying an almond milk latte, getting a hair cut, or having a massage. These are all things I do just for me. They leave me feeling recharged and relaxed.

 

I completely believe that in order to be the best version of yourself you need to take time to fill up your cup. Taking care of yourself, finding some enjoyment in little ways, or just being tuned in to your own thoughts can be so restorative.

3 things on my birthday

Hi there. Hope everyone is doing well. What an odd week it’s been, right? I think the holiday has just thrown most of us off.

Today I turn 33. I can still consider myself in my early thirties, right? It’s funny… age used to be such a big deal when I was in my twenties and now I actually forget how old I am. Seriously. I told someone I was 31 recently. Anyone else do that?

Birthdays and the start of a new year inevitably cause me to do a bit of self-reflection. Lately I find myself thinking about the direction my life has taken, the things I used to hope for and if they’ve changed, and how I feel about it all.

My life certainly hasn’t followed the path I thought it would. Like others, I’ve had my share of heartbreak, disappointment, and loss. I’ve felt helpless and just really negative at times. But so many amazing and surprising things have occurred in my life that wouldn’t have happened if everything lined up perfectly. I don’t understand why suffering happens, but life is a gift and I’m grateful for each day…even the bad ones.

So how do I feel on my 33rd birthday? Happy and full. And just really, really thankful.

With these feelings in mind, here are three thoughts I wanted to share on my birthday:

1. Trust the path.

It can sometimes feel like we are just stumbling along trying to get to some future (better) point in our lives. There’s no one who can tell us the right choice to make or which direction to choose. Here’s where I try to remind myself to trust the path. To trust it even if I’m not sure where it might lead. Because we all have the ability to change direction and try another path.

2. Take the right attitude.

Having a good mindset makes all the difference, yet it’s difficult to do at times. There’s always going to be something that knocks you back a bit, but choosing the right attitude when you really want to take the wrong one will change everything. My mom used to tell me I needed an “attitude adjustment” when I was in a bad mood. As usual, she was right!

3. Be grateful for everything.

What do you feel fortunate for in your life? It doesn’t matter if it’s something as small as enjoying a really good cup of coffee or that you have a healthy family. Take a moment to appreciate the things in your life that you may not always remember or recognize.

So how will I spend my birthday?

I’ve taken the day off from work (<–highly recommend!) and I’m spending the early morning in a quiet house reading and drinking coffee before the girls get up. A contractor is coming over to start working on the first phase of our living room redesign. I may sneak in a quick workout, too! So nothing too exciting, but I’m a homebody and this is pretty perfect for me.

When Matt asked me what I wanted to eat for my birthday dinner, I immediately thought of the homemade pizza from PaleOMG (found in Julie Bauer’s cookbook), baked chicken wings, and carrot cake (<–my very favorite).

Over the weekend, the girls and I picked up the ingredients to make my birthday cake and I’m excited to try this recipe by Elana’s pantry. Sounds really simple and delicious! It will not look like this by any means, but it will be tasty!

And the girls’ nanny (who really is part of our family) surprised me with some tasty treats which I will also be enjoying later today! Wine + chocolate = happiness.
