Weekend highlights + recent workouts

Hello there! How was your weekend? It was pretty rainy here so we did a lot of activities indoors.Two toddlers + rainy weather = crabbiness. We still got out a little bit on Saturday and Sunday.

Here are a few highlights:

Our first Little Gym class. The girls really loved it. I was having a hard time keeping up with them!


Lots of fun on our cars. The girls are getting really good! (P.S. that’s BOB in the background).


Almond butter blondies – um, yes, these are totally a highlight.


Petco to see the animals. The girls loooovvvvee cats. How long can we hold out? I just can’t take on the responsibility for another living thing. I just can’t.


Little helpers putting the groceries away…er, getting sidetracked. They love stacking the paper towels. Ashlyn got ’em pretty high!


Manicure: also, another highlight. Don’t judge. This is the stuff that keeps me happy, people!


Finally, I had my friend Maria from Goldenrod Place Interiors over to take a look at our living room and give us some ideas on how to make the space more functional and intentional (that’s a word Maria kept using). Guys, I couldn’t be more pleased with Maria’s suggestions and I am really excited about working with her on the space.

I went a little bit beast mode with last week’s workouts (all strength workouts directly from bodybuilding.com).

Monday – strength

3 sets of 10 @ 80% of 1 rep max

  • leg extension
  • wide stance barbell squat
  • walking barbell lunge
  • single leg dead lift using kettlebell
  • lying leg curl
  • standing calf raises

Tuesday – REST

Wednesday – strength and cardio

AM: home workout

3 sets of 12 – 15 reps

  • bent over DB row
  • DB pullover on stability ball
  • seated bicep curl on stability ball
  • preacher curl on stability ball
  • wide squat with DBs
  • hamstring curls on stability ball
  • single leg dead lift
  • ab crunch on stability ball

PM: Orangetheory class (Me: Everything hurts and I’m dying!)

Thursday – strength

3 sets of 10 @ 80% of 1 rep max

  • wide push ups
  • incline DB press
  • flat bench fly
  • decline fly
  • bench dips
  • lying ez-bar tricep extension
  • DB tricep kickbacks
  • overhead tricep extension
  • cable one-arm tricep extension

—> and then I crawwwllled out of the gym

Friday – home workout

3 sets of 10

  • seated DB press
  • rear delt fly
  • DB front raise
  • seated Arnold press
  • DB lateral raise
  • seated bent over rear delt raise
  • crunch
  • leg raise
  • oblique crunch on floor

  1. Cats are super easy. Just make sure to do your research and make sure you get one that is good with little people. PS – tell Matthew not to fire me for sharing this advice. Oh and I coined my Monday workout as Murderous Monday…. 8 HARD reps, 20 secs rest, repeat 3 times. I feel sorry for anyone in Dr Hecht’s office. I was gasping, grunting, etc. Fat loss is hard work!

    1. That’s so funny! Monday’s always feel murderous for me. 🙂 tough workout with little rest! Not sure I’m sold on an animal. I was thinking of telling the girls we are allergic. Sigh. I guess I shouldn’t lie.
