Weekend recap + last week’s workouts

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend.

Friday evening I had a work reception that I needed to attend. I wore my favorite Stitch Fix knit dress.

That evening we watched the final Hunger Games movie. Um, anyone else as confused as I was? I read the series and I still couldn’t follow what was happening in the last movie. I think I remember being a bit disappointed with the final book, although I read it a long time ago.

Saturday I worked out and then ran tons of errands.

The Target gods must have been looking out for me because I managed to spend over an hour shopping with zero meltdowns and I got everything on my list. I know!

Afterwards we spent a couple of hours outside chasing butterflies and looking for bugs. It was one of those perfect weather days in NC.

Once the girls went down for a nap I did a bunch of spring cleaning. I recently read this article and it put a fire in me to get serious about sorting through the girls’ clothes, toys, books, and shoes and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, isn’t being used, or outdated. Some things I’ve been hanging on to since they were babies, but they never use them. I donated four HUGE bags to Good Will and it felt amazing.

I also did a lot of organizing, including creating a small basket for the girls. My friend, Maria, recently talked about making a personal place for each child and so far it’s been helpful. As you can tell, M feels quite attached to things and A not so much.

Later, the girls and I baked GF chocolate chip cookies — well, it actually turned into one giant cookie. It tasted so good!

We ended our evening with wings and pizza. Everything in moderation.

I made my very first gluten free pizza and it was really yummy. The recipe is from Julie Bauer’s Paleo Cookbook. The crust was made out of tapioca flour, coconut flour, and eggs. I used canned sauce and mixed it with a dairy-free pesto I made using pistachios and basil. Topped it with peppers, green onions, and goat cheese. I wasn’t sure how it was going to taste, but it was soooo good.

Sunday was a busy day again. We had some pictures taken of the girls and I’m really excited to see how they turn out.

We spent some time at the playground before heading home. Sunday is meal prep day so we got a lot of things done in the kitchen. The day just flew by.

Last week’s workouts – the strength training was taken directly from bodybuilding.com. I’m trying to focus more on strength training and I kind of like having the workouts outlined for me.

  • leg press

  • wide stance barbell squat

  • standing calf raise
  • seated calf raise

Thursday

Shoulders & abs – 3 sets of 12 (60% effort)

  • seated DB press
  • standing DB straight-arm front delt raise to a “T”
  • side lateral raise
  • seated bentover rear delt raise
  • exercise ball crunch
  • bicycle crunch
