Weekend recap: sunshine, bubbles, and dump trucks

Hello Monday! I hope you had a great weekend.

Ready for our highlights?

Saturday morning the girls got up super early again. Their sleep has been heavenly lately, but they have started to wake up a tad too early for this mama. I want need my alone time in the morning.

So downstairs we went and I whipped up a couple of grape-banana-spinach smoothies. Those faces!

I went to workout soon after and left Matt with the ladies for a little bit. After class I came home and took the fastest shower of my life. It speeds things up when you have tiny ones banging on the shower door. We had to hurry because we were headed to the Touch-a-Truck event at Southpoint mall.



Super grateful that my awesome friend came along to help with the girls and take pictures.

In the end, the anticipation of the event was more enjoyable than the actual thing. I think the girls were a bit overwhelmed with all the trucks and noise. It was fun at first, but we didn’t hang around that long.


I also had to rescue Ashlyn from the bounce house slide. She got halfway up the ladder and started crying, but refused to walk back. Always an adventure with us! #momperks

Later on we spent time outdoors playing in the yard and splashing in the water table. PSA… it’s bubble season.

Later that afternoon Matt came home and I went out to do a bit of shopping and eventually ended up at Starbucks to study and do some writing. I have an awesome husband who is so supportive of my interests. We tag team over the weekend and try to give each other some time alone and it makes a big difference for us. It’s not easy getting things done with two kids in tow.

I am so excited about everything I am learning. I must have spent hours reading and writing. On a Saturday afternoon, you guys! Oh, and the passion fruit tea from Starbucks is delish!

Sunday I must have hit the snooze button like 4 or 5 times. I could not get myself out of bed. Apparently the girls felt the same – they slept in until almost 9 am! We hung around in our pjs for awhile and then went for a walk and ended up at the playground.

I was planning on working out, but I just felt like spending the whole day with the girls so I skipped it. Not sorry at all.

In the evening I made Matt’s favorite dessert: berry cream bars. So good!


I mean, honestly. These are ah-mazing. Delicious and sweetened only slightly with honey. The “cream” is actually coconut cream mixed with a bit of vanilla extract.

I got some decent workouts in last week, too.


3 mile run

  • mile 1: easy 8:00 – 8:30 pace
  • mile 2: speed work – 30 seconds AFAP (9 – 10 mph) and 15 seconds rest
  • mile 3: hill intervals – moderate pace with hills ranging from 3% – 7% incline

Strength training – upper body & abs focus

4 rounds:

  • pushups AMAP
  • 1 arm DB [elbow out] row (8-12 reps)

4 rounds:

  • DB curl to press (10-12 reps)
  • DB swings – heavy! (15 reps)

3 rounds:

  • Inchworms 10-15 and 10 second plank hold at the end
  • Single leg raises holding 15# DB (15 each side)
